Scary House
We drove by this house early on in our search for a new home. It was on a major road and the curb appeal was, well, there was none. But my brother recommended we look at it, even just for the property. He thought it was a great deal and worth a closer look. So we went.....
When we first looked at our new home, I refused to touch anything. The house, which is 120 years old, had not been lived in for over a year and a half. There were dead bugs everywhere and it was dirty, very dirty. I ran out of the house and planned to never return. Then I laid in bed all night unable to sleep, decorating the "Scary House" in my head. We continued to look at other houses but none compared. So we told the Realtor, "we want to see Scary House again". That is when Scary House took on a new meaning, we were considering buying it..."it" and all its 120 year old issues, its 4999 square feet and 4.5+ acres. Yikes! I have seen Holmes on Homes, on HGTV, and Renovation Realities, on DIY...I know how this episode ends.
Then we showed our Parents and they fell in love with it as well. With their support and encouragement, we moved forward. We felt if it was meant to be, it would work out. And it did...on July 20th after several weeks of negotiations and lawyers, we were popping a bottle of champagne in our new living room.
We need to give a special Thanks! to Heidi Reese Carpenter from Prudential Fox & Roach, our Realtor. She was so patient with us during our search and supported us through a very difficult settlement. We also need to thank Marita Hutchinson, our attorney, who made sure all the paperwork was in order.
